Are you planning on switching up the commanders/style of deck for some colors? Or are you just doubling up at that point. Why stop here eh? Smile
Since creating this thread, I've also finished a silver-bordered deck (Mary O'Kill), and I've begun work on a Isamaru, Hound of Konda and Mishra, Artificer Prodigy decks.

    Quote from Gashnaw »
So.ple answer. He has 32 decks. If I go by how regularly I play. It will take me 7 weeks to play each one. (Average 5 games a week. And I like playing my decks more than once a night. So yea easily 7 weeks. Maybe more.

He .ight play more often than k do but that is still probably gonna be a few weeks.
I play 2-4 games on Wednesdays after work, and all afternoon Sundays at my LGS. (The Commander start time is officially 1pm, and we get kicked out at 10pm if we're still there, which occasionally happens.) I only carry 5 decks with me at any given time.

Congrats dude, my question is how you decided which commanders to use to make it worth doing. Ive been trying for a while but find that the deck end up overlapping too much to make them unique.
Just waiting until a legend comes out that I didn't already have a deck for, which struck my fancy. For my mono-color decks, after building Thada and Jaya, I specifically made them a cycle of 2/2 creatures that cost 1 generic and 2 colored mana.

    Quote from Gashnaw »
well money might contain that creativity, or even just a lack of motivation after 40+ he had other decks in place of the ones before, and who is to say previous ones were not made before he started going for 32.
Money is not likely to contain my creativity. I'm single and make a 6-figure income. Smile

But why no Foglio commander for the Foglio tribal deck?
Because the only legendary creatures they've done are Ramirez DePietro and Orim, Samite Healer. I already had both Soraya and Wrexial when I decided to build my Foglio deck (and Orim isn't a 2/2), and I needed 3 colors to have enough card depth to build a deck.

Orim did make the 99, though.

Also, do you have your K&T list somewhere? I just finished my Tamanoa enrage deck and I was really tempted to add blue for Swans of Bryn Argoll and Nin, the Pain Artist. I am curious as to how you built it. Smile

The only thing I'll miss from Partial Paris is letting my opponents all sculpt their hands and then doing a T1 Mountain into Winds of Change. I mean, I still do it, but it feels so much better if they've been sculpting their opening hands.

    Quote from Gashnaw »
partial paris is kind of broken. My group uses the official rules.
(HOWEVER, if you have a hand with 0 lands, you reveal that you have 0 lands in hand and take another free mull (If you have already mulled to 6, mull to 6)
I wanna play with your group. My Oops All Spells deck would love it Tongue

Right now, I'm third most against this bit about mana abilities.

605.1b A triggered ability is a mana ability if it meets all of the following criteria: it doesn’t have a
target, it triggers from the resolution of an activated mana ability (see rule 106.11a) or from
mana being added to a player’s mana pool
, and it could add mana to a player’s mana pool when
    it resolves.

Bolded by me. That extra clause there disqualifies a lot of abilities that are just making mana, and I've yet to see a reason why they would go out of their way to protect Mana Flare mana but let you stifle something like Eladamri's Vineyard. Like, I half suspect somewhere in the game there's a card that I've never heard of that's like "Whenever you pick your nose, destroy all lands and add 1/2 a mana to your mana pool" that they don't want to skip the stack, but I've never seen it.
The was a change at some point, I'm not sure when. It used to be that triggered mana abilities could be triggered by any mana ability, not just activated mana abilities.

The upshot of the previous rule was that if you had Caged Sun naming Green and turned it into a Forest (eg, March of the Machines +
Conspiracy naming saprolings + Life and Limb), tapping Caged Sun for G would end the game in a draw without any player gaining priority to do anything about it.

After the change, such a situation can still cause a draw, but at least players get the opportunity to respond with instants/flash.

I've never seen Rashmi in the 99. I play against two different Rashmi decks on a regular basis, though, and if Rashmi gets to stick on the board for a couple turns, it usually means you've lost all hope of resolving a meaningful spell for the rest of the game.

why did none of you mentioned rite of passage if you can deal 1 damage to everything you can infinite since the passage negates the damage
Yeah, Rite of Passage is an all-star in my enrage deck. It also means using Polyraptor+Forerunner of the Empire for infinite Polyraptors ends the game on the spot with something like Boros Reckoner, Spitemare, Sun-Crowned Hunters, or Frilled Deathspitter

The key to making them not a color pie break is to make them temporary or to make them reversible. The enchantment from Eldritch Moon that turns a creature into a land is a great example. Being a random transformation is another way that blue can do it. Reality Shift falls into that category, the polymorph category, but halfway fails at it because of how often its a 2/2. I'm much more OK with RS than Pognify and Curse of Swine though, as it still fits the flavor of a random forced mutation or transformation, but it would have been much better if it just turned the creature face down.
The color pie break "issue" for Beast Within is that it can hit creatures (green gets to destroy noncreatures, flying creatures, and use big creatures to kill creatures, but doesn't get to blanket handle any creature), and similarly the "issue" for Chaos Warp is that it can hit enchantments (red can hit artifacts and lands, and can burn creatures and planeswalkers, but doesn't get to handle enchantments). Blue is allowed to deal with creatures so long as there's some kind of Polymorph-esque drawback or it's temporary (eg, bounce), so Reality Shift isn't a color pie break.

You can argue about how strong it is in general or in a particular environment, but it's not escaping blue's scope.

  • posted a message on Why did Red gain some old Black mechanics like Rituals and graveyard stuff?
    Quote from void_nothing »
Red has also always been able to recur instants and sorceries, an ability it shares with blue.
Other than cards that recur themselves (which happens in all colors), the only old-border red cards that recurs an instant or sorcery (or gives an instant or sorcery flashback) are Anarchist and Recoup, both of which are sorcery-only.

Anarchist is paired with Scrivener, of course, and that pattern (red = sorcery, blue = instant) is repeated with Burning Wish and Cunning Wish, as well.

As for why Snapcaster isn't a red card, I suspect a large part of the reason is because Tiago Chan wanted it to be blue. Tiago's initial submission was:
    Denying Channel
    Land
t: Add 1 to your mana pool.
2UU, Discard Denying Channel: Counter target spell.

I personally am not a fan of the ":sym*:" tags as they are cumbersome and generally not needed (except to get the Colorless Mana symbol).
You don't need to use :symc: either. [mana]c[/mana] works: C.

The mana tag will get you any symbol that exists on a card (generic works in the range 0-20).

    20Sqt(W/P)(U/P)(B/P)(R/P)(G/P)(W/U)(W/B)(R/W)(G/W)(U/B)(U/R)(G/U)(B/R)(B/G)(R/G)(2/W)(2/U)(2/B)(2/R)(2/G)

Unknown characters get you the Planechase "chaos" symbol: z

little surprised they have not done one for Colorless Mana yet. Only way to get that is with the symc or cmana
They have. I demonstrated it in my post. C

I was piloting Animar and had a face down Willbender in play when someone tried to Deepglow Skate a freshly played Elspeth, Knight-Errant. I was delighted to gift his "double counters" trigger to Animar, so then he responded with Sudden Spoiling and learned about the weirdness that is Morph on the stack.
So... he decided to completely waste his Sudden Spoiling?

Just so you know, every morph is a Willbender. That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.
Every morph is simultaneously a Willbender and a Den Protector.

Unless you're staring down a Pickles Lock, of course.

    1) Can you tag the commanders in your first post?
    Done! Smile

    Quote from Gashnaw »
    2) I would probably just list the box as color combinations, in case I want to build a second deck of said colors, i run two 5-color decks right now, (Well one is being taken apart) if i had a complete set of all 32 possible combinations, if i was getting a second set, well i would want to use the same box of the same combination, and all i had to do was look at the commander and recall the deck strat.
If you look closely, you can see that Thraximundar, Narset, and Thrasios/Ikra Shidiqi have white-out on the boxes. Thada used to as well, but as the oldest deck, her box was falling apart and I recently replaced it with a brand new one.

    Quote from Gashnaw »
    3) Can you fit a toploader sleeve in the single deck box with your deck?
My commanders are all in toploaders, and they lay across the top of the deck in the box. These are BCW 200-count storage boxes, which fit a double-sleeved deck + space for tokens, or triple-sleeved with no extra space.

You can buy these boxes for $0.35/ea direct from BCW if you order a set of 50 ($0.55/ea for a set of 10, more if you buy from companies other than BCW).

    Quote from Azurhawk »
What is your next goal? Grin
I'm working on a Mary O'Kill deck, so I'll also have a deck for silver-border games. I'm also getting Mary and the killbots altered to be Portal turrets.

I've also got designs for Norin chaos, Isamaru voltron, and Mishra control.

    Quote from MRdown2urth »
What unique sleeves do you use?
Child of Alara has sleeves with a mushroom cloud explosion. The mono-colored decks are all triple-sleeved with KMC Character Guard sleeves (just for fun, not because they're more expensive than the others). The other decks all use KMC perfect fit and Dragon Shield for double-sleeving.

The mono-color decks use sleeves of their color, and the 4-color decks use sleeves of the color they're not. The rest of the decks use a color that sorta-kinda matches the deck's colors. (Karn has silver sleeves.)

    Quote from Forgotten One »
It’s taken me forever to get to this point, so I appreciate the amount of time and effort that you went through in order to get to the finish line. Well done!!
The oldest deck in the collection is Thada, which was the second EDH deck I ever made. The first was Vorosh, the Hunter infect/proliferate (built after SOM and before MBS) and the third was Glissa, the Traitor (built after getting the oversized Glissa from the last Player Rewards mailing). So that means I built Thada probably in November 2010, and I just finished K&T this week.
