A little something I made for a friend of mine to cleebrate his wedding. The odd texture is from a photo stablizing spray I tried to use because I had run out of Kamar Varnish,...never again, at least is doesnt look as bad in person.

    I actually lol'd.

My first alteration! It isn't much, and I screwed up quite a bit, but I like it.

Oh, and could someone please tell me the rules for tournament-legal alterations? I want to make a deck and alter the whole thing to a theme, like Star Wars, and use it in FNM.
Oh, and has anyone done a playset of Sakura-Tribe Elders, one for each Ninja Turtle? I really wanna do that if I get good.

EDIT: R2 needs a background. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

For the tribe elders you mean like this...

Also if I can make a small reccomendation. When using erasers to 'clean' a card if you require a sertian shape it is best to either mask off the card prior to erasing or use small slivers of eraser so as to not have to much over erasing (ie areas that arnt altered that are erased.)

Other than that fine jorb on yer first alter keep it up.

It's very cool to see those gambles I had been approached about the same commission and turned it down as I wasnt sure I could do a decent job of it and was quite excited about seeing teh final results when I had been told you had taken it.

Oh and they turned out awesome.

    1) True. I have some markers but acrylics give you more options and better results imo.

    2) I thinkit is not necessary but better imo.

    BTW: nice alters :))

As someone who has done a lot of both I would totally have to disagree that marker gives you less option it just gives you different options that usually wont blend quite as well with the original card art but if you are doing complete alters than that shouldnt matter anyways.

So to sum it up if extensions are what you want to do in most cases paint will serve you better than markers but in you are doing totally new art than it comes down to what you are more comfortable with.

I would also point out that as large a difference as there is between good quality paint and bad quality paint there is an even larger quality gap where markers are concerned, mt personal recomendation for markers in use for altering is

1)Copic-The range of colour and quality of pigment makes these markers unbeatable IMO.

2)Pitt Artist Pens-Made by Faber and Castell these also come in a very wide range of colours but not as many tip choices as exist with the copics.

3)Sakura Pigma Pens-They actually make what might very well be the best fineliners of the bunch but dint come close to wither Copic or Pitt when it comes to size of their colour pallet and I think their wider tips and brush tips leave something to be desired.

There are a lot of other brands out there that people seem to rate very highly like Letraset Tria, and Stanford Prismacolor but in my opnion they are not nearlly as good as the pens listed above for the purpose of card alters.

The one thing that all of the markers I rate highest have in common is Pigmented instead of Dyed ink, the main benifit of which is fading or lack thereof. If you are going to spend a lot of time and effort on a piece of art you owe it to yourself to insure that it will look as good as possible for as long as possible and pigmented ink is one step in doing that, but Im sure Galspanic could speak much better than I on the benifits of pigments over dyes.

What makes people believe that Aoki has a better chance than any other top flight 155lbs/70kg fighter out there? Aoki has solid credentials but Penn has defeated far more respected ground technicians and other people in their prime.

Of course, that's assuming he gets to the ground with him to begin with and doesn't get steamrolled by BJ's stand-up. Gray Maynard could be a stout challenge if he's proven to have a good ground game but it wasn't too long ago that Nate Diaz submitted him.

Im sorry but Penn has never faced let alone beat anyone with Aoki's jits credentials, at least not to my knowledge, hell there just arnt many out there with Aoki's jits credentials period.

Now that is not to say that Penn isn't one of the absloutely best jits practitioners out there himself and far outclasses Aoki in just about every other area. Really the only person I see beating Penn right now is someone with as good or better standup and off the hook takedown defense, that is why I think either Alverez or Hellboy (one of my personal faves at LW) would be a good matchup, much better than Aoki in fact.

Aoki vs. Penn would be a massacre. BJ's TDD is legendary, and he's a former BJJ world champion. Combine that with Aoki's terrible striking and poor chin and he'd be lucky to get past the 2nd round.

If anyone's going to beat Penn at 155 it's going to be an elite striker with good enough BJJ to avoid getting submitted. If he can clean out the FW division, I'd really like to see Jose Aldo move up to 155 and make a run at the title.

Although I agree that Penn would be a heavy favorite to say it would be a massacre is a bit unfair to Aoki and his incredible skills. The thing is Penn has never faced someone who is...

a)As good at pulling guardand dragging his opponenet down with him.

b)As active and dangerious from the guard.

Now even if by chance Aoki does manage to pull guard Penn still would have to be considered quite a favorite as his BJJ is just fantastic and is very unlikely to get caught in one of Aoki's bizzare submissions.

Personally I think the best fights for BJ at 155 would be Alverez or Hansen although he still has to be considered a favorite against either of them too. With Alverez he would be facing someone with nearly as well rounded a skillset as himself and some vicious power and with Hansen he would be facing possibly the best standup striker in the LW division who also has great TD defense. Unfortunately as long as BJ remains in the UFC Im thinking either of those fights would be quite unlikely.

Maybe this is just me but although I love to listen to music while playing other games I find that especially if I am playing at a highly competitive game that music tends to take away my focus when playing magic (as I will rock out instead of paying proper attention to what is happening in the game) The funny thing is I find the exact oppisite with other games, for instance a good song totally helps focus when playing pool or darts but is a hinderance when playing magic for me.

Speaking of power if you havnt seen it yet you need to see this, multiple winner of the Worlds Strongest Man competition Mariusz Pudzianowski in his MMA debut last night. That man is more of a monster than Brock could ever hope to be.

So I made my first stab at altered art. I am not very spectacular at altering cards, but the art is something I am proud of. It is a very simple "Sharpied" version of the Mind's Eye card however I have modified it so that the card is much more highlighted than is normal. Main reason I did this was to show my "appreciation" to Edward Beard Jr. for all that he has done for the MTGsalvation community Wink

Im sorry not a slag on the alter or anything but this has got to stop there is absloutely no point at all in trying to aggravate or instigate Mr. Beard as it does nothing to serve the community at all an may in fact hinder it.

I say we hold the xmas theme until late December and do the famous paintings first,...just my 2 cents.

Oh and to try to inspire the idea a bit more, some old work from a previous PnP.

Having have run a gamestore for the majority of the last 10 years or so that specialized in CCG products I have to say that as far as I am concerned the best CCG ever made as far as rules and ballance goes was the VS system which in construction was absloutely brilliant. I have never before or since plaed a CCG that focused on the skill of the player to the same degree as even with a totally bomb deck it was very unlikely that an unskilled palyer could beat a good player no matter how bad their deck was.

Other very fun games out there (both alive and dead)

L5R- Still being produced and probably always will be as although the fan base is smalish they are very VERY loyal to their game.

Illuminati:NWO- Although not as good as the non CCG version of the same game this is a wicked fun game although the artworks sucks for the most part.

ST:tng- A fantastic game with lots of flavour but a bit complicated for a lot of players.

WoW- Regular game play is excellent but where this game really shines is when using the Raid decks as this gives a very old fashioned pen and paper RPG feel to the game.

And a couple of honourable mentions to a couple admittedly horrible games, Spellfire and Wyvern as they were a couple of the first CCGs I played and had a lot of fun with them.
