They used to do an annual 'announcement day' in mid-ish may every year and that would be where they would reveal the fall set's plane. They did not do one this year so it's anyone's guess when and how they'll do the announce.

(baseless speculation speaking) Maybe they delayed the announce until during/after M20 spoilers because it implies some plot development that they don't want revealed yet. Like when they concealed the Eldritch Moon symbol for so much longer than usual (the name of War of the Spark was also kept under wraps longer than most sets' names). Given M20's focus on the life and times of Chandra, maybe M20 cards reference some events on, say, Regatha, or Kephalai - which they don't want people thinking about yet.

"Chandra, Awakened Inferno deals X damage to target creature or planeswalker. If a permanent dealt damage this way would die this turn, exile it instead."
Does this mean the second sentence only applies to creatures, or can planeswalkers die as well? I don't think they've ever used die for planeswalkers.

Ajani's Last Stand, Rising Populace and Kaya's Ghostform definitely are templated as though dying is a thing planeswalkers do.

Thinking about it... This set will most likely have FOUR Chandras.
    Don't forget the planeswalkers decks!

The article linked directly states this. "Since there were four different Chandra Planeswalker cards tied to Core Set 2020..."

I know amic loves his dromokas but I believe his sideboard is also loaded with white silver bullets.

I am interested to see he has abandoned aspect of hydra. If we’re off the green devotion tip, there have been a number of cards that we’ve disregarded over the years because we have been so heavily green-devotion based. I know I’m a huge fan of lupine prototype in a low curve hyper aggro deck, but that would be in a build that completely foregoes instant combat tricks.

Scale Up makes the creature a 6/4 at sorcery speed for one mana.

Everything this deck plays is at least a 2/1. Which is to say Might of Old Krosa already did that better, in addition to serving duty as an instant trick in a pinch.

Scale Up is bad unless we’re running 0-costers-with-evasion like Birds of Paradise.

Eh, I guess legacy stompy runs Quirion Rangers. Even still, +5/+3 at sorcery speed on a creature with no evasion nor trample... is probably worse than a card that can be +4/+4 at sorcery speed or +2/+2 at instant speed as needed.

I hope they do. We've been trying it in our playgroup so far and it's much better to use than the current mulligan rules. Then again we don't have cards to take too much advantage of this like Grenzo, etc.

Grenzo's my worry. I luv Grenzo. I don't wanna see him banned because of a mulligan change.

It is a net zero (you’re down 0 cards, opponent is down 0 lands). Stone rain is a net zero (you’re down 1 card, opponent is down 1 land). Field of Ruin is a net zero (you’re down 0 lands, opponent is down 0 lands).

This really is virtually identical to field of Ruin, except in counterability. Field of Ruin effectively costs 3 mana (2 plus tapping itself), allows your opponent to search and replace his destroyed non basic with a basic, and lets you do the same so it replaces itself. This costs 3 mana, allows your opponent to search and replace his destroyed nonbasic with a basic, and as a cantrip it replaces itself.

At the very least I hope that the discovery of actual oil on Ixalan means something going forward and isn't just a footnote. It would be interesting to see some factions begin to industrialize and come into conflict over this new resource.

A good friend of mine has been convinced that at some point there will be a set based on the Wild West. This would be a perfect setup for that - in ixalan which very much was a retelling of American colonization, for there to be a story later down the timeline to parallel the old west, one of the major storylines of which is always what happens when Texas Tea gets discovered, and lands that were once considered nearly worthless suddenly become hotly contested.

Someone asked Mark Rosewater (either on Twitter or his Blogatog tumblr account, I can’t remember which), if the fact that we’ve just gotten Slivers in Modern Horizons makes it slim-to-0 percent we’re getting them in Standard in the foreseeable future, he said it doesn’t preclude them from Standard sets, in the foreseeable future. I found that interesting.

    Or it’s Maro being Maro.

He always gives the answer that gives the readers hope but never confirmation so they can’t come back with ‘you lied’ when the hope he allowed was unfounded.

I’m sure his answer about snow or ninjas or cycling or changeling or anything else would be the same.

Wow, people were talking about whether the last green card would be Wild Growth or Wirewood Symbiote. It's neither, it's a new card, Winding Way. And it seems ... super efficient to me? Particularly in a creature heavy deck?

I mean I know Beast Hunt was BAD. But wow to actually improve it three substantial ways (go four deep rather than three, cost 1G rather than 3G, and allow you to choose whether it's digging for creatures or lands-a-la-Mulch)... that feels really pushed to me. In a creature heavy deck, that could be as much as a draw-4 for 1G.

In limited, where most of your deck is creatures, this is a high probability of a lot of gas.

Why there is an almost better sprout swarm that doesn't make saprolings? WE WANT SAPROLINGS
(well, maybe not "we" but just "i"... but i have to keep faith to my name)

What card are you talking about? I read through thre green spoilers twice and didn't see anything like that, but maybe my eyes deceive me.

There's a manifest card. I thought they said mechanics introduced that recently wouldn't be in this.

Do we know First Sliver’s Chosen is White?
Considering what The First Sliver does,
I could totally see it being Blue with “Slivers you control have ‘UT: Return this creature to your hand.’”

I guess they could do that in White as well, if they wanted.

Nope, that is purely a guess that I made on page 8. It is based on the fact that slivers is the RW draft archetype and, with that in mind, put it in white since it did not fit in red.

First Sliver's Chosen is, in fact, white. 4W, 3/3, all slivers you control have Exalted.

Because nothing makes you play a go-wide tribe like telling you not to go wide. :p

Aaand we got the last land. And it is an enhanced Shimmering Grotto. But it's not snow. Instead it's a Shimmering Grotto with a bonus "4 mana, tap, and sac: put two +1/+1 counters on a creature, activate only when could sorcery". At common.

    Cave of Temptation.

My bet for the final land is a snow variant of Shimmering Grotto

I honestly think that, bypassing Standard, they can spare to finally make a general-purpose fixer better than that. I don't think a simple ETBtapped any-color-mana land would be too good for modern (I mean we already have ones for all ten color-trios and they don't get used...).

It would be too good for standard and the powerlevel of standard-set limited, so that's why they always go with Grotto variants or Rupture Spire variants. But the power level of modern, and the power level of this set, could accommodate a snow Rupture Spire without the pay-or-sac clause.

It’s a cantrip Field of Ruin. Field of Ruin is a heavily played modern card. What more did you expect it to do, make you breakfast?
