I also think a 3/2 etb looter forwould be deceptively extremely powerful and very playable across a wide variety of cube decks.
A double looter 2/1 for would be rad, I'd jam that all day.

Nov 5, 2018I feel like Jediath_Jones players are afraid of the card doing nothing, maybe?Posted in: Cube Lists
I have a friend who used to really dislike playing cards like Sphinx of the steel wind without having some way to hardcast it in the deck, since he was worried about it being useless. Similarly, I think your player may be afraid of building an oath deck without a "guaranteed enabler" like orchard, even though Oath actually triggers very often in practice.
On the topic of burn, I think about arc lightning as a modal spell that can
1) kill a X/3 or smaller.
2) kill a X/2 and a X/1
3) kill three or fewer X/1s
4) go face
Comparing that to the versatility of Forked Bolt explains why you might run one card and not the other.
Sep 17, 2018It's sort of like an Anticipate with a hybrid cost, that also has a really badly costed Recoil attached to it if that kind of effect is more useful.Posted in: Cube New Card Discussion
I think the card is really interesting due to it's great mana flexibility, but I don't think I can fit it into Dimir.
Sep 17, 2018Seems a lot worse than Dictate of Heliod to me.Posted in: Cube New Card Discussion
The dictate makes my 1/1s into 3/3 instead of angels, sure, but it also:
-Affects tokens created before the enchantment hit.
-Affects non-token creatures.
-Has flash and can be used as a pretty disgusting combat trick sometimes.

Legendary Creature - Orgg
Lancetosser Orgg can't attack or block unless you control a creature with greater power.
T: Attach target equipment attached to Lancetosser Orgg to another target creature.
IIW: A legendary artifact or enchantment for magic’s history.

Well, I have literally no way of fitting this in I don't think, but other medium to larger cubes might? If the creature dies, you can still cast the exiled cards, so that's nice. Picking from three also seems extra good when mana is not a concern.

This kind of gets to the heart of the issue. I agree that a super allstar for 1C is usually at least pretty well worth considering for CC. The reason this card loses so much due it's cost is that it doesn't just cost UU. In the absolute best case scenario, this card's colored mana cost is XUU, where X a non-blue color.Quote from calibretto »A slam dunk at 1U should is not just fringe playable at UU, imo. It's certainly somewhat worse because of that, but that doesn't suddenly make it unplayable.
However, for most of my blue decks, I also run blue instants and sorceries, in which case I need access to at least UUU to reliably target them.
I think the bottom line, at least for me, is that;
1. This card is not powerful enough to justify needing reliable access to triple blue.
2. This card becomes too weak of a cube card if I can't reliably target most of the spells that I play in my deck.
This confuses me? "Reliable" in wtwlf's article meant 75% of the time unless I'm mistaken. So in this example, you would be sitting with a counterspell and not enough blue mana some amount greater than 25% of the time.Quote from calibretto »My point is that even if the stats say I need ten blue sources to reliably cast a UU spell on turn four, how often will that actually come up in game play if I only run eight sources for my one UU card? How often will I be sitting on Counterspell on turn four with only one blue source in play?
Sep 16, 2018It's an embarrassment of riches, isn't it?Posted in: Cube New Card Discussion
Out of the cards I mentioned, I like Silumgar and tog the least. But they are all super close, and I feel like I can swap between all those cards if I felt like it.
Sep 16, 2018I'd at least consider this card very strongly at 1U. I run unpowered, so it maybe doesn't seem like a slam dunk even then. But currently I'm writing this card off completely, and most of why is the mana cost.Posted in: Cube New Card Discussion
Sep 16, 2018I feel like this card is just on the cusp of being a slam dunk. Like, if he had trample or something it'd be a done deal.Posted in: Cube New Card Discussion
As it is though, I think this still has the potential to be great.
Green really needs strong proactive 4 and 3 drops, and green 4-s have been somewhat lacking in this regard in my experience.
Sep 16, 2018This card is pretty sweet but there is literally no way I can fit this into my cube.Posted in: Cube New Card Discussion
Selesnya is a guild stacked to the brim with all stars. White fives are bonkers. Green fives are not far behind.
Card is great, just outclassed IMO.
